After Burner: Black Falcon brings Sega's arcade jet combat series to PSP. You fly a fighter aircraft through fast, on-rails style missions, weaving between enemy planes and missiles while your reticle locks onto targets ahead. The core loop is familiar to anyone who has played earlier After Burner games: hold the throttle, roll to dodge incoming fire, and unload machine gun rounds and homing missiles at swarms of hostile aircraft. Rather than a pure arcade score attack, the PSP game strings its action together with a mission structure, giving you objectives to complete and aircraft and upgrades to work toward as you progress. Handling stays deliberately arcade-like, with barrel rolls and afterburner bursts rather than realistic flight modelling.
