Air Combat is a jet combat flight game for the PlayStation 1 and the starting point for the series that later became known as Ace Combat. You fly missions as a contracted fighter pilot, taking off into 3D skies to shoot down enemy aircraft, destroy ground and naval targets, and protect friendly forces. Controls sit between arcade action and simulation: you manage throttle, roll and pitch, switch between machine guns and missiles, and use a radar and target box to track opponents. Views include a cockpit perspective and an external chase camera. Completing missions earns money that goes toward buying new aircraft with different speed, handling and weapon loadouts, and some missions can be flown with a computer-controlled wingman alongside you.
