Allied General is a turn-based World War II strategy game, adapted to the PlayStation from the hex-based wargame series it belongs to. You command Allied forces across campaign scenarios, moving infantry, armour, artillery, air and naval units over hex maps and taking objectives before the scenario's turn limit runs out. Combat resolution accounts for unit type, terrain, entrenchment and support from nearby units, so pushing tanks into cities or ignoring air cover tends to be punished. Victories earn prestige, which you spend between battles to reinforce damaged units, upgrade them to newer equipment or buy additional forces, and results carry forward through the campaign. The interface is menu-driven and adapted for a controller. Pacing is slow and deliberate, with a focus on planning attacks rather than reflexes.
