Ape Escape 3 is a 3D platformer for PlayStation 2 built around catching escaped monkeys with a net and a set of supporting gadgets. As in earlier entries, the right analog stick controls your gadgets while the left stick handles movement, so swinging the net, aiming and stunning apes all happen with stick gestures rather than button presses. You choose between two playable kids, and stages are themed around television and film sets, with monkeys hidden throughout each area. The game adds transformations that temporarily change your character into different costumed forms with their own attacks and abilities, used to reach monkeys and areas that standard gadgets cannot handle. Optional minigames and returning-to-stages hunts for missed monkeys round out the package.
