Ape Escape Academy is a minigame collection for PlayStation Portable set in the Ape Escape universe, trading the series' 3D monkey-catching platforming for short, rules-light challenges. Each event lasts seconds to a minute and tests a single skill: timing, button rhythm, quick reactions, aiming or pattern recognition, usually with the series' cartoon monkeys as the subject of the joke. Events are grouped into sets you work through in single player, with results and rankings pushing you to replay for better performance. Multiplayer support lets several players take turns or compete on the same challenges. The presentation keeps the bright colours, chunky character designs and slapstick tone of the main platformers, and the pick-up-and-play structure suits handheld sessions of a few minutes at a time.
