Apocalypse is a third-person action shooter for the original PlayStation. You play as Trey Kincaid, a scientist thrown into a ruined near-future world, voiced by and modelled on Bruce Willis. Gameplay centres on constant movement and shooting: you strafe, dodge and fire at waves of enemies across industrial, urban and otherworldly environments, collecting new weapons and ammunition as you go. Aiming is handled with a lock-on system so you can keep moving while keeping fire on targets, which matters given how many enemies arrive at once and how quickly you take damage. Levels are largely linear runs punctuated by large boss encounters, with cutscenes and in-game dialogue delivering the story between fights. The tone is loud and pulpy, leaning on wisecracking commentary from the protagonist throughout.
