Athens 2004 is an officially licensed Olympic Games sports title for the PlayStation 2. You compete in a selection of summer Olympic disciplines, with an emphasis on track and field events such as sprints, hurdles, throws and jumps, alongside other sports from the Games programme. Events are driven largely by rhythmic button work and timed presses: building speed on the run-up, hitting the release or take-off window, and managing stamina where it applies. You choose a nation and athletes, and can play through a full Olympic campaign chasing medals or drop into individual events for practice and records. Multiplayer support lets several players contest events at the same console. Presentation follows the broadcast style of the Games, with stadium venues and ceremonies.
