Backyard Football 2006 is an arcade football game for PlayStation 2 in the long-running Backyard Sports series. Teams are made up of the series' neighborhood kids alongside child versions of real football pros, and games take place on informal neighborhood fields instead of professional stadiums. Rules are simplified, the playbook is compact, and controls are designed so newer players can throw, run, and tackle without learning a deep simulation system. You can play single games or a season, drafting and managing your own lineup as you go. The presentation is cartoon-styled, with exaggerated animation, colorful fields, and commentary pitched at a family audience. It plays as a lighter alternative to standard licensed football sims of the era.
