Battle Arena Toshinden 2 continues the weapon-based 3D fighting series. Characters again battle in enclosed rings using swords, whips, staves and similar arms, with the sidestep move available to dodge into the background or foreground instead of only moving along a flat plane. Returning fighters are joined by new challengers, and the move sets are expanded with additional special attacks and desperation techniques that can be used when your health bar is low. Modes cover single-player progression through the roster and head-to-head matches for two players. Each fighter has personal story sequences, an individual theme and a distinct silhouette drawn from the series' anime-influenced art style. Arenas are varied backdrops with boundaries that keep the action contained rather than open 3D spaces.
