Blade on PlayStation is a third-person action game based on the Marvel vampire-hunter character. You play as Blade, moving through enclosed urban and interior stages populated by vampires and their human servants. Combat mixes melee attacks with his sword and hand-to-hand strikes against ranged fire from pistols and other weapons, and you collect ammunition and recovery items as you go. Levels are built around clearing rooms of enemies, finding switches or keys to open the way forward, and reaching a boss confrontation. Vampire enemies need to be finished off properly rather than simply knocked down, which shapes how you approach groups of them. The presentation leans on dark environments, pre-rendered story sequences and a soundtrack that follows the tone of the film license.
