Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain is an action-adventure played from an overhead, isometric viewpoint. You control Kain, a nobleman murdered and raised as a vampire, who travels the land of Nosgoth seeking revenge on those responsible and answers about his condition. Combat is real time with melee weapons, while blood drained from enemies sustains Kain and acts as a resource. Alongside weapons and armour you collect spells and shapeshifting forms, including a wolf for speed, a bat for long-distance travel and a mist form for slipping past obstacles, all of which are also required to reach areas otherwise closed off. The world is largely open to backtracking, with towns, dungeons and boss encounters, and the story is carried by extensive narration and voiced dialogue.
