Bloody Roar 4 is a one-on-one fighter for the PlayStation 2 built around zoanthropes, humans who can shift into animal forms mid-battle. You fight in 3D arenas using strings of punches, kicks and throws, then trigger a beast transformation that changes your moveset, boosts your damage and opens up new attacks until the meter runs down. Taking hits in beast form can knock you back to human shape, so managing when to transform is part of the strategy. The roster covers a spread of animal types, each with its own fighting style and beast abilities. Modes include arcade-style ladder play, versus matches against a second player, training, and a story path that follows the characters through the game's plot. Ring-out mechanics and destructible arena walls factor into the fights.
