Blowout is a side-scrolling shooter for the PlayStation 2 that renders its environments in 3D while keeping your movement mostly along a 2D plane. You play an armed soldier fighting through the interiors of a facility infested with alien creatures, firing on enemies that come at you from either side and drop in from above. Levels are built from corridors, platforms, lifts and vertical shafts, so jumping and climbing matter alongside shooting. Weapon pickups and upgrades broaden your options as you advance, and enemy types range from swarming small creatures to larger, tougher opponents. The pace is aggressive and combat-focused, with the emphasis on keeping moving and managing ammunition rather than puzzle solving or open exploration.
