Breakout on the PlayStation is an updated take on Atari's paddle-and-ball formula. You move a paddle along the bottom of the screen, keeping a ball in play and using it to clear blocks arranged in patterns above. The core rules are unchanged from the arcade original, but the presentation moves into 3D, with stages set in varied environments and shifting camera angles rather than a single flat playfield. Power-ups dropped by broken blocks alter the ball, the paddle or your firepower, and later stages introduce block types and obstacles that require more careful angles. Play is level-by-level, with lives lost when the ball gets past you. It suits short sessions and players who want a modernized version of a familiar arcade concept.
