Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars is a point-and-click adventure game. You play George Stobbart, an American tourist in Paris who witnesses a bombing carried out by a man in a clown costume and starts pulling at the threads of the conspiracy behind it. The investigation leads across several countries and into a story involving the Knights Templar, medieval history and a secret society. Alongside George you also control Nico Collard, a French journalist following the same trail. Gameplay involves exploring hand-drawn 2D locations, collecting and combining inventory items, questioning characters through dialogue trees and solving environmental puzzles. Characters are animated in a cartoon style over painted backgrounds, and the story is carried by full voice acting and animated cutscenes.
