Burnout 2: Point of Impact is an arcade racer built around driving dangerously. Boost is earned by taking risks in traffic: driving into oncoming lanes, drifting, tailgating and near-missing other cars, all of which fill a meter you can burn for extra speed. Courses run through everyday public roads, city streets and highways with live traffic rather than closed circuits, so overtaking means threading gaps at high speed. Crashes are modelled with slow-motion camera work and send your car tumbling. Alongside the championship events, Crash mode drops you into junctions and interchanges with the goal of causing the largest possible pile-up, scored on the damage you create. Other event types include time-based challenges and head-to-head races that unlock further cars and tracks as you progress on the PlayStation 2.
