Burnout Revenge builds on the series' aggressive arcade racing with traffic checking: same-direction traffic can be rammed aside or used as a projectile against rivals instead of ending your run, while oncoming cars and larger vehicles still wreck you. Boost is earned through drifting, near misses, oncoming driving and Takedowns, where you slam opponents into walls and traffic to knock them out of the race. Events include races, Road Rage bouts scored on Takedowns, Burning Lap time trials, Eliminator and Traffic Attack, which challenges you to hit as much traffic as possible. Crash mode returns with junction scenarios scored on the size of the pile-up and Crashbreaker detonations. Progression unlocks additional cars and courses, and crashes are shown with slow-motion impact cameras on the PlayStation 2.
