Bushido Blade is a weapon-based fighting game for the PlayStation with no health bars and no round timer in its duels: a clean strike to a vital area ends a fight immediately, so matches can be over in seconds. Fighters choose from a range of Japanese weapons, including katana, naginata, rapier and heavier blades, each with its own reach and weight, and switch between three stances that change the available attacks and defences. Damage is tracked by body part, so a hit to an arm or leg can leave a fighter limping or unable to hold a weapon properly rather than simply losing points. Arenas are open, connected 3D spaces without ring-outs, letting fighters run, climb and move between areas mid-duel. Modes include a story campaign, versus play and training.
