Cabela's Trophy Bucks is a hunting game for the PlayStation 2 built around the pursuit of large deer. Played mainly from a first-person view, it has you moving through wooded and open country, reading tracks and other signs, and using calls, scents and hunting stands to bring bucks within range. Wind direction and noise affect whether animals detect you, so much of the game is spent waiting and positioning before taking a shot. A selection of licensed firearms and bows is available, along with optics and other gear drawn from the Cabela's brand. Animals you take are scored on antler size and body, so the goal is to hold out for the biggest buck rather than shoot at the first opportunity. Progress opens up further hunting locations and equipment.
