Call of Duty 2: Big Red One is a World War II first-person shooter made for the PlayStation 2 era of consoles, a separate game from the similarly titled PC and Xbox 360 release. Its campaign follows soldiers of the United States 1st Infantry Division across North Africa, Sicily and Italy, and then into France and Germany, with documentary-style narration tying the chapters together. You advance with AI squadmates through scripted set pieces, using cover, grenades and emplaced weapons, and some missions hand you a vehicle or gunner position instead of a rifle. Weapons are drawn from the period, including bolt-action rifles, submachine guns and machine guns. The PS2 version supports local split-screen multiplayer alongside the single-player campaign.
