Cardinal Syn is a one-on-one fighting game with 3D arenas and a dark fantasy presentation. Fighters are armed with weapons rather than relying on unarmed combat alone, and each character has their own moveset and reach. Matches take place in enclosed stages with hazards and drops, so positioning matters alongside attacks and blocking. The roster covers a spread of grotesque and armoured designs in keeping with the game's grim setting, and the story mode frames the fights with cutscenes explaining each character's motives. Modes include single-player play against the computer and two-player versus matches for head-to-head bouts. Controls follow the standard fighting-game approach of light and heavy attacks combined with directional inputs for special moves, with movement around the arena in three dimensions.
