Champions: Return to Arms continues the EverQuest-based action role-playing series on PlayStation 2. You choose a character class, then fight through dungeons and outdoor stages from an overhead perspective, using melee swings, ranged attacks and spells assigned to the controller buttons. Enemies and chests drop weapons, armour and magic items, and levelling gives you points to put into statistics and skills. The game includes cooperative play for multiple players sharing one screen, plus competitive arena-style fighting between characters. Saved characters from the previous game in the series can be imported and carried forward. Structurally it is a loot-focused dungeon crawler: you clear areas, manage inventory, upgrade your build and move on to tougher regions, with the option of replaying content at higher difficulty.
