Championship Surfer is a surfing game for the original PlayStation. You choose a surfer and a board, then paddle out and ride waves at a selection of beach breaks, working with the shape of each wave to set up manoeuvres. Points come from linking tricks, turns and tube rides before the wave closes out, and wiping out cuts a run short. Different locations produce different wave conditions, so the timing and lines that work at one break do not always carry over to another. Alongside free surfing, the game includes competitive play where scored runs are judged against rivals. The perspective follows your surfer in three dimensions along the face of the wave, with a soundtrack and presentation aimed at the extreme sports games popular on the platform.
