At its core is a chess engine you play against on a console, with difficulty settings that let you scale the computer from a gentle sparring partner up to a genuinely demanding opponent. You can play against the machine or take turns with another person on the same console, and choose between different board and piece presentations. Teaching material and practice options are included for players still learning openings, tactics and endgames, alongside features such as reviewing your moves and setting up positions. Games are controlled with the pad rather than a mouse, moving a cursor across the board to select and place pieces. It suits anyone who wants a straightforward chess opponent available on a television without setting up a physical board.
