Civilization II on the PlayStation is a console version of the turn-based strategy game in which you guide a civilization from antiquity into the future. You found cities, send out settlers to improve terrain, manage food and production, and steer research through a tree of technologies that unlocks new units, buildings and government types. Diplomacy with rival leaders can mean trade and treaties or war, and combat is resolved unit by unit on the tile map. Wonders of the World give lasting bonuses to whoever builds them first. Victory can come through military conquest or by winning the race into space. The interface has been reworked for a controller and television display, with menus and map scrolling handled from the pad rather than a mouse. Games are long, with each turn split into building, moving and negotiating.
