Clock Tower is a survival horror game for the PlayStation played largely through a point-and-click interface. You guide Jennifer through buildings and grounds using a cursor to examine objects, open doors and hide, while a knife-wielding pursuer known as Scissorman can appear at almost any time. There is no conventional combat: when the killer finds you, your options are to run, block his path or conceal yourself in wardrobes, under beds and in similar spots, with a panic meter affecting how well she copes. Exploration is about gathering items and information while noting escape routes for later. Events and the killer's appearances vary between playthroughs, and your choices and survival lead to several different endings. Presentation uses side-on 2D scenes with prerendered backdrops and sparse sound that emphasizes footsteps and the pursuer's approach.
