Cold Fear is a third-person survival horror game in which you play a US Coast Guard officer boarding a Russian whaling ship adrift in a storm. The vessel's crew has been transformed by a parasitic infestation, and you work through its decks, cabins and engine spaces looking for survivors and answers. A defining element is the weather: out on the exterior decks the ship pitches and rolls, waves wash across the walkways, and your footing and aim shift with the movement. Combat uses an over-the-shoulder aiming view with firearms and limited ammunition, and enemies often need to be finished off on the ground rather than simply shot down. Later sections move beyond the ship to an offshore oil platform. Save points, resource scarcity and tight interior spaces shape the pacing.
