Cold Winter is a first-person shooter for the PlayStation 2 with an espionage storyline. You play a British operative caught up in a conspiracy, moving through linear mission areas and fighting armed enemies with pistols, rifles and explosives. Weapons can be picked up from fallen opponents, and the game leans on physics-driven interaction with objects in the environment. A notable mechanic lets you combine items found in the field, such as tape, chemicals and electronics, into improvised explosive devices that you place and detonate yourself. Combat includes cover, grenades and melee attacks, and health is managed with medical supplies gathered along the way. The presentation is mature in tone, with cutscenes and voiced dialogue carrying the plot between levels. Multiplayer deathmatch modes are included alongside the single-player campaign.
