Colin McRae Rally 3 brings the rally series to the PlayStation 2 with stage-based competition against the clock. You tackle special stages across a range of countries and surfaces, including gravel, tarmac and snow, guided by co-driver pace notes that warn you about corners, jumps and hazards ahead. Car damage is modelled and persists through an event, with repair time between stages forcing decisions about which parts to prioritise. The handling model asks you to manage weight transfer and braking on loose surfaces, and the difficulty comes as much from reading the road as from outright speed. Alongside the main championship progression there are single-stage and time-based options for practice. Presentation includes replays and course-side detail such as spectators and trackside scenery.
