Colony Wars is a space combat game for the PlayStation in which you fly a starfighter through mission-based sorties in an interstellar conflict. Objectives include escorting friendly craft, destroying capital ships, defending stations and dogfighting enemy fighters, using lasers, missiles and shields managed from the cockpit view. Missions take place in open space and around planets, asteroid fields and large fleet installations, with radar and target lock used to track opponents. A defining structure is its branching campaign: succeeding or failing a mission does not simply reset the level but pushes you down a different path through the war, leading to several possible conclusions. Between missions, briefings and full-motion cutscenes advance the story, and new craft and weapon loadouts become available as the campaign progresses.
