C: The Contra Adventure is a PlayStation entry in Konami's run-and-gun series. You control a commando through a sequence of stages that alternate between viewpoints: some are traditional side-scrolling shooting levels, while others use 3D perspectives, including overhead and into-the-screen sections where you move through corridors and open areas. The core loop remains shooting waves of soldiers, creatures and machines while collecting weapon power-ups that replace your standard gun, and enemy fire generally kills in one hit. Stages close with boss fights against large mechanical or biological enemies with set attack patterns. Environments include jungle, industrial and alien settings, and the game uses pre-rendered backdrops and polygonal enemies alongside its 2D-style sequences.
