Demolition Racer is a vehicular combat racer for the PlayStation built around demolition derby rules. Rather than simply finishing first, you earn points for the damage you inflict on rival cars, ramming and sideswiping them as you circle the track, and your placing is calculated from a combination of race position and destruction dealt. Events take place on enclosed circuits and arena-style courses packed with a large field of opponents, so pile-ups are constant. Cars visibly deform and shed parts as they take punishment, and taking too much damage yourself ends your run. Alongside the standard race events there are dedicated destruction modes where wrecking the competition is the sole objective. Vehicles unlock as you progress through the championship.
