Devil May Cry is a stylish third-person action game for PlayStation 2. You play as Dante, a demon hunter who takes a job that leads him to a gothic island castle overrun by demonic enemies. Combat mixes gunplay with sword and melee attacks, encouraging you to juggle enemies in the air and keep combos going; a style meter grades how varied and clean your fighting is, which in turn affects the rewards you earn. Between fights you explore interconnected castle areas, solving lock-and-key puzzles, backtracking with newly found items and facing large boss demons. Fixed camera angles frame the environments, and red orbs collected from defeated enemies can be spent on new weapons, abilities and healing items. Difficulty is high, with harder modes unlocking after completion.
