Dino Crisis 2 shifts the series toward sustained action on the PlayStation. Regina returns, joined by Dylan Morton, and you switch between the two characters across the campaign as they investigate a research site where a time-related accident has filled the surrounding jungle and facilities with dinosaurs. Instead of fixed rooms with cautious pacing, the game sends large groups of dinosaurs at you in open areas, and killing them quickly and in chains builds up points. Those points act as currency, spent at terminals on new weapons, upgrades, ammunition and healing items, which makes combat efficiency the core of progression. Environments range from jungle and river to industrial interiors, with underwater and vehicle sequences breaking up the fighting. Extra modes and unlockables become available after finishing the main story.
