DJ Max Fever is a handheld entry in the DJMAX rhythm game series. Notes scroll down lanes mapped to the PSP's face buttons and shoulder buttons, and you press them in time with the music, holding longer notes and keeping combos alive to build your score. The soundtrack leans heavily on electronic, dance, pop and rock tracks produced for the series, and songs are presented with animated or video backdrops behind the note chart. Charts are offered across multiple difficulty tiers, so the same song can be played as a straightforward pattern or as a dense high-speed test. Additional songs and modes unlock as you play through the game's structured sets and missions. Play is button-based throughout, with no peripheral required.
