Doom on PlayStation is a console conversion of id Software's first-person shooter, combining levels from Doom and Doom II. You explore maze-like bases and hell environments from a first-person view, hunting keycards, hitting switches and uncovering secret areas while fighting imps, zombies, cacodemons, barons and other demons. Weapons include the shotgun, chaingun, rocket launcher, plasma rifle, BFG and chainsaw, and an automap helps with navigation. This version adds coloured lighting effects to many areas and replaces the original MIDI soundtrack with ambient music and atmospheric sound design. Multiple difficulty levels change enemy placement and aggression, and a split-screen link-up option is included for cooperative and competitive play. Levels are selected from a mission list, so completed stages can be replayed.
