This PlayStation 2 version of Journey to the Purple Planet is a Dora the Explorer game for young children. Dora and Boots set off into space to help a new friend find the way home, stopping at different planets where short activities and simple exploration make up the play. Tasks draw on the television series' teaching style, mixing counting, colours, shapes and Spanish words with spoken instructions and on-screen prompts so that pre-readers can follow along. A second player can take control of Boots and join in cooperatively. Controls are kept basic, and mistakes are met with encouragement and another try rather than game-over screens, making the pace suitable for very young players. Familiar character voices and artwork from the show are used throughout.
