Dragon Ball Z: Sagas is a stage-based action game rather than an arena fighter. You guide characters through levels drawn from the Dragon Ball Z storyline, using melee combos, throws, and ki energy attacks against groups of enemies before facing bosses from the series at the end of stages. Health and ki gauges govern what you can do, and you can strengthen your characters' attributes as the game progresses. Different playable characters become available as the story moves forward, each with their own techniques. Environments include open outdoor areas and more confined locations, with objectives centred on clearing enemies and advancing to the next point. The game also supports cooperative play for a second player during the action stages.
