Dragon Valor is an action game for the original PlayStation built around dragon slaying across several generations of a single family. You move along a largely side-on plane through 3D environments, using melee attacks, jumps and magic against enemies before facing the large dragons that cap each chapter. Between chapters the story jumps forward in time, and decisions you make can affect which descendant you take control of next, so different playthroughs can follow different branches of the family line. Combat mixes light platforming and exploration through castles, caves and towns with boss fights that reward learning attack patterns and keeping your distance. Characters gain power over the course of a chapter, and the narrative is delivered through cutscenes and dialogue between stages.
