Drakan: The Ancients' Gates is an action role-playing game for PlayStation 2 in which you play Rynn, a warrior bonded to the dragon Arokh. Gameplay alternates between on-foot exploration and aerial sections. On the ground, Rynn fights with swords, axes, bows and magic, climbs and swims through dungeons and settlements, and takes on quests from the people she meets. When Arokh is available, you mount him and fly across open landscapes, breathing different types of dragon fire at enemies in the air and on the ground. Both Rynn and Arokh gain experience and can be developed over the course of the game, with new weapons, spells and breath attacks unlocked as you advance. The story moves between hub areas and dungeon interiors as you work toward opening the titular gates.
