Drakengard is a PlayStation 2 action game that splits its combat between ground and air. You play Caim, a prince who forms a pact with a red dragon named Angelus in order to keep fighting a war he is losing. Ground missions send you into large battlefields against crowds of soldiers and beasts, cutting through them with swords, spears and other weapons that can be collected and levelled up through use. Aerial missions place you on Angelus, flying over the battlefield and locking on to targets with breath attacks. The story is delivered through cutscenes and mission briefings and follows a grim tone, with several allies joining Caim along the way. Completing the game unlocks branching paths that lead to multiple endings tied to fulfilling particular conditions.
