Dynasty Warriors on the PlayStation is a one-on-one weapon-based fighting game drawing its cast from the era of the Three Kingdoms of China. You select an officer, each with a distinct weapon such as a spear, sword, halberd or bow, and face opponents in arena duels using attacks, blocks, throws and special moves. Fights take place in 3D arenas where you can sidestep and circle your opponent rather than being locked to a single plane. A single-player path takes your chosen character through a run of opponents, while versus play lets two players fight head to head. Later entries in the series moved to large-scale battlefield combat against crowds of soldiers, so this game plays quite differently from the games that carry the name afterward.
