F1 2001 is an officially licensed Formula One game for the PlayStation 2, featuring the teams, drivers, cars and circuits of the licensed season. You can run single races, time trials or a full championship, with practice and qualifying sessions determining your grid position. Race weekends can be shortened or extended, and settings for opponent skill, damage, tyre wear, fuel use and weather let you move between a forgiving arcade experience and something closer to a simulation. Driving aids including traction control, braking assistance and automatic gears can be toggled individually. Car setup covers areas such as gearing, wings and suspension, while pit strategy and tyre choice matter across longer distances. Commentary and telemetry-style readouts report sector times and gaps to the cars around you.
