FIFA 99 is the PlayStation entry in EA's football series, built around licensed clubs, national teams and player names. Matches are viewed from a broadcast-style camera with commentary and crowd audio, and you handle passing, crossing, shooting, tackling and set pieces. Beyond single matches, you can contest domestic league seasons, cup knockouts and European club competitions, or take a national side through international tournament play. Formations, tactics and starting line-ups are chosen from menus, with substitutions available during games. A practice mode and penalty shootouts can be played on their own. Match length, difficulty and rule settings such as offside and injuries are adjustable. Two players can compete or team up with a second controller, and memory card saves keep season and tournament progress between sessions.
