FIFA Soccer 09 is an installment in EA's long-running association football series, here in its PlayStation 2 form. You pick from licensed clubs and national sides and play full 11-a-side matches, controlling one player at a time while the AI handles positioning off the ball. The core controls cover passing, through balls, crossing, shooting, sprinting and sliding tackles, with set pieces such as free kicks, corners and penalties handled in dedicated aiming screens. Alongside quick exhibition matches you can play through league and cup competitions, and manage a squad over multiple seasons, handling lineups, formations and transfers between fixtures. Matches are presented in a broadcast style with commentary, replays and crowd audio. Multiplayer is supported locally, so two players can share the couch as opponents or as teammates in the same side.
