FIFA Soccer 97 is an entry in EA's football series for the original PlayStation. It offers licensed teams and competitions with 11-a-side matches played using controls for passing, crossing, shooting, sprinting and tackling, along with set pieces for free kicks, corners and penalties. Alongside standard outdoor football, the game includes an indoor small-sided mode played in an enclosed arena where the ball rebounds off the walls, which changes the pace and tactics considerably. You can play exhibition matches, league seasons and knockout tournaments, adjusting formations and lineups before kick-off. Presentation covers commentary, crowd audio and replays, with polygonal players on the pitch. Local multiplayer is supported so two players can compete against each other or play on the same team. The controls and pace reflect the series' mid-1990s design rather than its later iterations.
