Final Fantasy Chronicles is a PlayStation compilation containing two role-playing games on one disc: Final Fantasy IV and Chrono Trigger. Final Fantasy IV is a turn-based RPG built around the Active Time Battle system, with a fixed cast whose members join and leave the party as the story moves between the surface world, the underground and beyond. Chrono Trigger sends a group of characters across different eras through time gates, using an on-map battle system with position-based attacks and combination techniques between party members. The PlayStation release adds anime-style animated cutscenes to Chrono Trigger and bundles in extras such as bestiaries, art galleries and a memo save function for suspending play. Both games are presented largely as their original 2D versions.
