The PlayStation Portable version of the second Final Fantasy, presented in 2D with reworked sprites and backgrounds. You play as Firion, Maria and Guy, three youths caught up in a rebellion against an empire, with a rotating fourth party slot filled by story characters who come and go. Instead of experience levels, characters improve through use: attacking with a weapon raises skill with that weapon, casting spells raises those spells, and taking damage builds endurance. Battles are turn-based against random encounters as you travel between towns, dungeons and castles, with a keyword system that lets you ask NPCs about specific topics. This release also includes an additional bonus scenario following characters written out of the main story.
