Final Fantasy XII is a single-player role-playing game set in Ivalice, where the small kingdom of Dalmasca has been caught between two larger empires. You control a party that includes the street thief Vaan and grows to take in sky pirates, soldiers and royalty as the political plot unfolds. Battles take place directly in the field without a separate combat screen, using a system where actions queue up on timers while you move the party around. The Gambit system lets you assign conditional instructions to each character, so allies act automatically according to rules you set, leaving you free to intervene when needed. Abilities, magic and equipment are unlocked on a shared License Board grid. Sprawling dungeons, hunts against optional monsters and Espers to summon fill out the world.
