Firefighter FD 18 is an action game for the PlayStation 2 in which you play a firefighter working through burning buildings and disaster sites. Rather than combat against enemies, the central challenge is fire itself: you direct a hose to knock down flames, force open doors, break through obstacles and pick routes through structures as smoke, heat and collapsing scenery close off paths. Locating and rescuing trapped survivors is the main objective in most stages, and carrying people to safety before conditions worsen drives the pacing. You manage resources such as water and your own air supply, and levels are laid out as interiors and industrial spaces to explore under pressure. The story is presented through cutscenes between missions as your character searches for a missing person amid the emergencies.
